Katie and Drew’s Rustic Maine Wedding | The Barn at Flanagan Farm

ImageSweet Katie and Drew met in St. Andrews, Scotland when the two were studying abroad with the help of a mutual friend.  Their first encounter led them to their first date the following day and they’ve been tied to the hip since.   Here’s Katie’s words when describing the proposal:

“Drew was planning a trip for a big proposal, but when the ring arrived in the mail he decided to propose right away. He told me that we needed to take our dog, Moselee, for a walk and we stopped on the the first bridge that we walked over when we visited Denver and decided to move here.”

It’s the most awesome sight to see a man look at a woman with such incredible love and adoration, so this proposal story makes total sense! Drew absolutely could not take his eyes off of Katie for long as you will see in the breathtaking photos by Roseann Wang below.

The two were planning from Colorado, so they wanted to make sure they had some support here in Maine.  Katie looked to us to help secure additional wedding day vendors, maintain rentals and manage the day of details at The Barn at Flanagan Farm.  When I finally had the chance to meet Katie and her family the week prior to her wedding day, I watched in awe as each and every person took on the pieces of the puzzle.  Everyone was so helpful in making sure this day was lovely in every way; and it was, even more so because they did.  Total team effort.  I remember the ceremony rehearsal and the days leading up to it was overcast and rainy what seemed like for weeks.  The sanctuary in the woods had just been cleared and ready for the first wedding of the season.  Katie was determined to have the ceremony outdoors no matter the weather, and I believe this mindset gave way to clear skies!

Enamel Beverage Cart

Half-way along the path to the ceremony in the woods, our enamel beverage cart housed the pre-ceremony drink display of lemonade and sweet tea.  In lieu of a traditional program, Katie opted to do a simple evening agenda on our A Frame chalkboard.  The multi-colored paper straws were sweet!

This gorgeous setting was made more amazing with a birch arbor and floral design by Stacy Brenner of Flora Bliss.

I love this image of Katie…I was truly blown away at how beautiful she looked (with the help of Lisa Nale of Studio One).  The dress, designed by one of my favorites (Claire Pettibone) made her a knock-out for sure, but I had never met a woman with a more stunning head of hair.  Think princess Merida in the movie Brave.  Gorgeous!

Katie and family assembled local market flowers into sweet bottles paired with plants in terracotta pots atop tree slices for the guest centerpieces.

June 29 (21)

The menu consisted of arugula, Maine strawberry and chevre salad served with a champagne vinaigrette, cornbread served on cutting boards, whiskey braised apple sauce and slow roasted local pig served with bourbon barbecue sauce prepared by the crew at Dandelion Catering Co. (beginning at 1 am that day onsite, I might add!)

Rev. Will Saunders officiated the ceremony beautifully.

I can’t quite remember what was happening here, but I think you can now easily relate this image with my statement about Drew above.

Drew had a style all his own, which I of course love.  Katie affirms that he is probably more stylish than she.

The men!

Drew’s and his groomsmen’s suits are from Michael Andrew’s Bespoke in New York City.

The girls are lovely in J Crew.

Together a good looking league!

The signature drinks were selected and made by the groom; enjoyed by all.

Guests enjoyed lawn games, drinks and hors d’oeuvres such as tarragon Maine lobster brioche with citrus aioli and smoked paprika and braised beef in a bacon popover with black cherry conserve…YUM.

The night would not have been complete for them without traditional Maine blueberry crisp with creme fraiche & mint, presented in individual ramekins on cast iron pans.  Re-purposing our enamel cart for this made service easy and fun!

The party continued on well into the night!

Katie and Drew, we loved working with you and wish you all the best for many years to come!

Another special thank you to the crew at One Stop Event Rentals, and for Carats and Cake for featuring this beautiful day!
