Blue Moon Vendor Soiree

Happy fool’s day, y’all! And what better to spend this day celebrating Anniversary #2 of our showroom space with a blog post celebrating Anniversary #1. Last year around this time, we hosted an epic Gratitude Gathering with some of our favorite Clients and friends from the wedding industry.

AFamilyAffair_BlueMoonEvent_jamiemercuriophoto-50

We centered the night in further celebration of the second (yes, you read that right) full moon of 2018. At the start of 2018, we had two months (January and March) with Blue Moons. They are Blue Moons by the monthly definition of the term: the second of two full moons to fall within a single calendar month. The first Blue Moon came on January 31, 2018, and the second on March 31, 2018. I reached out to the uber talented Sarah Parrott Bianculli of Garden Gate Lettering to set the stage with some incredible letterpress invitations with a gorgeous galaxy style envelope liner. I plan to share the outcome of the invitation as soon as we acquire images (very unfortunately, my invite did not reach me where it could be photographed). You will see a peek of her work in the table scapes below…I swear, they were pure magic and lended to an amazing turnout for us.

A very special thank you to the New Gloucester Village Store and the Frisky Whisk for providing us with some beautiful and delicious bites for the event!

We were so proud to work with so many talented vendors on this very special event. We truly wanted to show our gratitude for the support of our industry friends. Carolyn Snell produced some sweet blue and lavender floral designs in our antique brass vases, and pampas grass and pussy willow in our large blue bottle vases. They were the perfect touch with shimmery gold mercury glass globe votives.

How perfect is this Moroccan copper chandelier? John and Dana from Griffin and Griffin Illuminated completely transformed the space with dark blue velvet draping, soft purple uplights and twinkle lights for a starry effect.

Both long tables were wrapped in copper metal and covered with custom sewnblue ikat runners. Low seating at ottomans in dark blue and soft green made for cozy seating.

I love the way our vintage amethyst goblets look on this table setting! The dinner plates were a stoneware lined in a beautiful watercolor blue along the edges.

Sarah very thoughtfully hand lettered each person’s place card and provided a most beautiful card explaining each guest’s favor: a velvet bag containing prosperity and abundance stones, tied with a beautiful mulberry silk dyed ribbon and adorned with a golden bee charm. We sourced the bag from The Common Shaman located in Stockton Springs, Maine and the ribbon was sourced from Golden One Two on Etsy.

Our blue fringed napkins were the perfect textured backdrop to the place settings.

These incredible letterpress cards by Sarah explaining the Lunar Phases of the moon were also so beautifully special and helpful for us to learn more about the awesome moon cycles.

I am so pleased to intro you to Ahura Diliiza, also known as “Z”. This is the man that truly helped bring this whole event together. In my search for the perfect person to help us to better understand and take advantage of the power of this incredible second blue moon, I first came to find The Unicorn School of Metaphysics in Casco, Maine (YAAAASSSS an actual unicorn school you guys. In Casco!). Here, I learned about the school’s founder, Z, and after an initial call with him I knew I was going to love working with him on this. He first came to the showroom, did a full assessment and spiritually cleaned the space of any negative energies. During this time, I learned about his teachings, his near reality TV show experience and some truly incredible stories about his life and his love of theater and video production. He told me to get a water fountain for the event to bring positive energies throughout the gathering, and he created soothing custom music specific for the party.

Z spoke with us about the significance of the bee: a strong symbol or how hard work and diligence lead to prosperity. He spoke about how the stones (garnet, apatite and pyrite) and crystal (citrine) can be placed in the moonlight to soak up some of the moon’s powerful energy and could then be placed outside around our homes in the soil, or carried with us in our pockets to keep that energy with us. Each piece was hand selected to help us to all clearly define our goals, provide us with positive attitudes and prevent us from the hang ups that keep us from continued prosperity.

AFamilyAffair_BlueMoonEvent_jamiemercuriophoto-73

Then of course, without warning, he singled out almost each person in the room and provided mini readings that brought so much nervous laughter (I am sort of hiding in the corner here worried the group was thinking I hired Z to put a spell on them).

AFamilyAffair_BlueMoonEvent_jamiemercuriophoto-75

AFamilyAffair_BlueMoonEvent_jamiemercuriophoto-76

Thankfully laughter ensued for the remainder of the evening! I can’t wait to do this again!

Rachel and Jake’s Rustic Flanagan Farm Wedding | Buxton, Maine

I can’t believe these two just celebrated their two year anniversary! Congratulations, Rachel and Jake! My heart still flutters when I think of this dreamy September wedding, held at the beautiful Barn at Flanagan Farm under the the most pristine blue sky and warm sun. These sweet souls inspired me from the first time I met them, their creative spirits shining through each and every planning decision we made. Rachel and Jake’s wedding was even featured in The Knot New England Issue last fall, but now, we’re honored to have the pleasure of revisiting this sweet day ourselves and reminiscing about the magic and beauty that was created.Flanagan Farm Wedding Bride and Groom PortraitsThese lovelies met nearly ten years ago on their freshman move-in day at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Though it took a full year for Rachel and Jake to become friends, and another two years for them to start dating, these two hit it off right away. They quickly fell in love over their shared interests and love for the outdoors.

As both of their families would surely attest, an engagement was nothing short of destined. Showing his genuine personality and deep love for Rachel, Jake impressed with his thoughtful planning and sweet gesture leading up to the big event.

“When Jake first told my parents he was planning to propose, my mom offered him a family diamond from around 1920 that belonged to my great-grandmother,” explained Rachel. “He took the diamond and designed a ring for it that was classic and simple, but with a unique setting. I knew I wanted a yellow gold band and had shown him some rings that I liked, but I had no idea when Jake was getting the ring made and he surprised me with it! It’s perfect.”Flanagan Farm Wedding Bride and Groom PortraitsFrom the very beginning of the planning process, Rachel and Jake prioritized location over most aspects of their wedding day, citing Maine as the perfect place to hold their special event. With the immense beauty this state has to offer, I can hardly blame them!

“We knew we wanted to get married in Maine, the state where we met, and also close to where I grew up,” said Rachel. “The Barn at Flanagan Farm had the right feel we were looking for: it was rustic and natural but also polished and comfortable for our guests. Plus the whole wedding party could stay at the farmhouse, which was so much fun! Because our family and friends are scattered across the country, it was kind of a destination wedding too.”Flanagan Farm Wedding Bride and Groom PortraitsWhile Flanagan Farm was easily the perfect fit for these two, we continued to work with Rachel and Jake to build a team of inspiring vendors that would bring their wedding dreams to life. With the beautiful farmhouse serving as the inspiration for their design, we worked together to created an event that reflected their love for nature, with rustic touches that embodied a simplistic beauty.

“We picked an ocean blue and a sage green as two colors to carry through, but had a lot of other natural influences, like the wood barn and gold and pinks in the flowers,” the two explained. “The color scheme was not super intentional, we wanted it not to feel forced.”Flanagan Farm Wedding Bride and Groom Portraits.jpgAssisting with the design of the wedding website and invitation suite was also one of my favorite aspects of planning as well, mostly because I got to take an extra peek into one of Jake’s many talents! As a graphic designer at his firm, Jake excelled at designing the most beautiful printed day-of paper (including invitations, programs, and table numbers!) to reflect their sweet and adventurous personalities.

“Our print materials had fading blue mountains on them, which represent Maine and also where we live now, Colorado,” explained Rachel. “We’re big mountain people, we love skiing and hiking, and it was a way to reflect us in our invitations and print materials.”Flanagan Farm Wedding Day Of Paper - Table NumbersWedding-293Wedding-298Wedding-300Wedding-469

Wedding-468From the joyous first look and intimate woodland ceremony to roasting s’mores over a bonfire at end of the night, this day was nothing short of perfect. The outpouring of love and support by Rachel and Jake’s family and friends was simply heartwarming, and I still reminisce about the beauty created on this special day. Thanks to sweet and über talented Cambria Grace Photography, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to share the details of this wedding with all of you.Flanagan Farm Wedding - Bridal ShoesFlanagan Farm Wedding - Bridal DressFlanagan Farm Wedding - Bridal PortraitWedding-111.jpgWedding-224.jpgRachel wanted all of the bridesmaid dresses to be the same color, but different styles (and affordable!) and achieved this look thru David’s Bridal. I just love the styles they each chose, each being unique and different than the next!Wedding-341Rachel’s family is Jewish and Jake’s is Christian, and they wanted to incorporate both religions into the ceremony.  They were married until a chuppah, which was made and decorated by the incredible Broadturn Farm, and included Rachel’s grandfather’s Tallis over the top.Wedding-352Tom Whitehead Music played music during the ceremony and cocktail hour and brought a local flair to the wedding, including the “Appalachian Waltz” as the processional number!Wedding-396The ceremony included seven blessings (which they wrote!) read to them in English by their wedding party and Hebrew by the Rabbi. They also chose two bible readings, and ended the ceremony by breaking a glass! They were both escorted down the aisle by both of their parents, as is tradition in Jewish weddings. The ceremony was officiated by both a Rabbi that Rachel knew growing up and Jake’s dad, who is a Lutheran Pastor in Iowa.

Wedding-433.jpgCocktail hour was on the lawn under a magical sailcloth tent. The weather was absolutely perfect that day, and wedding guests had fun playing corn hole and wandering around the farm site. Wedding-473Wedding-445Wedding-459Wedding-547Wedding-591.jpgWedding-593Wedding-551Wedding-556Wedding-289Wedding-297Wedding-305Wedding-304

Rachel and Jake had a 3-tier buttercream cake – half vanilla with strawberries in the filling (drool) and the other half was chocolate with a raspberry and chocolate mousse filling (again, drool). They also had a “funfetti” groom’s cake as Jake simply loves this cake. How cute is that?! Wedding-602Wedding-629Whew! What a wedding. These two really know how to have a good time. Wedding-560

We just had the most incredible time watching these two celebrate their love with such style and personality!  After their wedding Rebecca and Jake took to the Swiss Alps for some honeymooning – perfect for their passions of the outdoors and mountaineering passions.  Thank you to Rebecca and Jake for being so lovely.

Joe and Alyson’s Modern Ocean Gateway Wedding | Portland, Maine

Dear sweet Alyson and Joe. These two have got it going ON! Thinking about their trendy July wedding at the Ocean Gateway in Portland just quickens the heartbeat. Revisiting their story, their wedding day and the amazing photographs taken by LAD Photography has far and away been the right start to the New Year!Ocean Gateway Wedding Bride Groom WalkAlyson and Joe may have met while they were both undergraduates at Wake Forest University, as they had loads of mutual friends, but their relationship really took off when they met an an alumni event in Boston, where they both lived. Alyson helped to coordinate such events for the university in Boston, and Joe was interested in assisting in these events. Based on his friendly, outgoing and just plain NICE personality Alyson instantly saw him as a great candidate to help make alumni events a success – little did she know these qualities would also translate into an amazing partner.Ocean Gateway Wedding ChampagneOcean Gateway Wedding Black White PortraitJoe, on the other hand, knew that instantly Alyson was “the one” after their first date.  The duo met for drinks to celebrate their birthdays, which fall only 5 days apart, and ended up talking for hours. Ocean Gateway Wedding Bride ChampagneJoe and Alyson got engaged in Ogunquit, Maine when Joe insisted that they go on a spontaneous day trip despite Alyson feeling a bit under the weather.  He took her to the scenic Marginal Way and popped the question – naturally at this point Alyson said yes and the two returned to Boston and went to the same bar where they had their first date to celebrate.  The glorious planning details of their wedding began – which unfold in a series of gorgeous images.Ocean Gateway Wedding Groom ShoesOcean Gateway Wedding Groom Getting ReadyOcean Gateway Wedding Groom SocksOcean Gateway Wedding Groom TieOcean Gateway Wedding Bride DressOcean Gateway Wedding Bride Dress CloseupOcean Gateway Wedding JewelryOcean Gateway Wedding EarringsOcean Gateway Wedding InvitationsOcean Gateway Wedding Invitation and RingsThis gorgeous invitation suite was designed by Wedding Paper Divas.Ocean Gateway Wedding Bride SmilingOcean Gateway Wedding Dress ZippingOcean Gateway Wedding Bride LaughingOcean Gateway Wedding Bride VeilOcean Gateway Wedding Bride RingOcean Gateway Wedding Bride ShoesOcean Gateway Wedding Bride Shoes Black and WhiteThere were countless special touches to Joe and Alyson’s wedding day – including these custom made handkerchiefs they gave to their mothers prior to the ceremony. This worked out perfectly for them in a couple of ways – they loved that their family could play such a big role and that their friends got some extra time to enjoy the amazing city of Portland before the reception.Ocean Gateway Wedding Wedding PartyThese two chose to get married and celebrate their wedding at Ocean Gateway because of its modern feel, complete with picturesque ocean views, and convenience for all of their guests staying downtown. When we began the planning process, they were initially sold on the ceremony outside on the lawn, but it didn’t really suit the feel for the day, or work in the chance of inclement weather.  After a long meeting with John and Josie of The Event Light Pros, we developed a plan for them that would not only cover plan B, but also add an element of mystery and surprise that fit the couple’s personality perfectly.  With careful planning, we marked off the entire room with 10 foot white pipe and drape, disguising all guest seating as well as creating a long, gorgeous aisle for guests and the Bride to walk that opened up to the peak of the room that was to be the ceremony spot.  But champagne first….Ocean Gateway Modern Wedding (17)Ocean Gateway Modern Wedding (2)Ocean Gateway Modern Wedding (1)Ocean Gateway Wedding Groom and Officiant…AND what better way to have a ceremony on the ocean than to have a sea captain be your officiant?! Captain Ken Barnes  performed a super meaningful ceremony overlooking Portland’s Casco Bay.Ocean Gateway Wedding Bride and ParentsOcean Gateway Wedding CeremonyAlyson really loved the way this lighting installation lended a modern vibe to not only the ceremony, but what was sure to be a gorgeous backdrop for a night of dancing, which is what this spot was later transformed into.Ocean Gateway Wedding Ceremony HandsOur black urns were used with Carolyn Snell‘s talented hands to create two stunning and abundant greenery designs that gently framed these two during the ceremony.Ocean Gateway Wedding Ceremony AfarOcean Gateway Wedding First KissOcean Gateway Wedding Wedding Ceremony First KissOcean Gateway Wedding Ceremony SelfieSnapchatting their first moments with their family cheering=winning! After getting engaged they repeatedly heard the same words of warning: that the time goes by so fast, making it hard to spend enough time with each of your guests. So they decided to write personalized notes to everyone attending our wedding so that they could steal some extra opportunities to reminisce and be sure they knew how much they meant to them. When guests sat down, they each had note tucked behind their menu.  Again, so thoughtful!Ocean Gateway Wedding Wedding Guest TablesOcean Gateway Wedding GlasswareOcean Gateway Modern Wedding (5)Dandelion Catering did what they do best, presenting guests with local, well-crafted, beautiful and DELICIOUS food throughout the evening. peppercorn saltine and finally, the creme de la creme, mini classic Maine lobster roll.Ocean Gateway Wedding AppetizersOnce the dramatic white curtains revealed the dining room to guests, we still wanted to keep an area sectioned off from the dining room and dance floor. Creating sections of various hanging greens and string lights gave us this ability to provide more intimacy within the dining space. Katie and Johnny’s Intimate Hidden Pond Wedding | Kennebunkport, Maine

Katie and Johnny are two of the most fun and interesting couples I’ve been blessed to know.  I mean, they met at a hip hop dance club their freshman year at Bowdoin to start…how boss is that?! Katie immediately noticed Johnny because, well, he was the only guy in the class – and, as she puts it, she “couldn’t help wondering who this guy was, so immediately went over and introduced herself.” And turns out that was just the move for Johnny to notice Katie – out of a sea of girls this one came right up and got his attention. Throughout that semester, and watching each other’s fab dance moves, a natural friendship between the two grew.LFA_Katie_Johnny-0169Johnny asked Katie out the night after a hip hop dance rehearsal, leading up to their first dance show that December. They had known each other about three months and were still in their first semester at school. The college was leading an initiative during that time – Date Week – which was meant to encourage healthy relationships between students. Johnny saw this as a perfect opportunity to casually ask Katie out on “Date Day” and get to know her better.  As their dance rehearsal finished up late in the evening, Johnny had to sprint to catch Katie in her dorm hallway before she went to bed, in the last few hours of the night. The actual first date was soon after and consisted of dinner at a cute and classy restaurant in downtown Brunswick, followed by a movie. So classic!Hidden Pond Wedding (247)Years later the proposal came. And what a proposal it was! Johnny and Katie were living in Boston and Johnny arranged a scavenger hunt by planting little scrolls of paper all over the city in shops, stores, and outdoor spots while she was being treated to a massage.  Johnny explains “[The scavenger hunt] was actually reminiscent of a scavenger hunt around the Bowdoin campus that I had given her for her birthday during our first few months of dating – making everything come full circle. Her final Boston clue led her down a trail lined with trees illuminated with white holiday lights, and at the base of a statue – the final destination of the scavenger hunt – I got down on one knee and asked Katie to marry me! She, of course, said yes! And, while she later remarked that she had a sneaking suspicion that something was up, she said that she was nonetheless still very surprised and touched by all the thought that went into such a perfect night!” Their love of world travel and immense playfulness captured our hearts and reliving this day today by way of the incredible images captured by Leah Fisher, has been pure bliss on this snowy Tuesday.LFA_Katie_Johnny-0280LFA_Katie_Johnny-0881Hidden Pond Wedding (84)LFA_Katie_Johnny-0062It was really important for Katie and Johnny to have a “smaller” wedding, with about 70 guests, to create an intimate weekend for all invited. This gorgeous invitation suite and day of seating chart and escort board were so thoughtfully designed by Anticipate Invitations. Everyone was invited to go to the rehearsal dinner the night before where skits, songs, and toasts were among the festivities, so by the time the wedding took place many guests were already great friends. Since both Katie and Johnny love games and being active, they made sure that their reception had lots of activities (from cornhole to giant jenga, ladderball, and kub) so there would be no shortage of laughs and intermingling. As a matter of fact, Johnny began the day with his guys playing some favorites to get the playful momentum started.Hidden Pond Wedding (46)Hidden Pond Wedding (60)Hidden Pond Wedding (566)Hidden Pond Wedding (572)LFA_Katie_Johnny-0304Hidden Pond Wedding (664)The details at this wedding were absolutely lovely. After all, this is the great state in which they met and their relationship really took off – what better way to celebrate their wedded bliss? In Camden, Katie recalled that they had a lovely time a local Bed and Breakfast, with reading, games, and relaxing on the top of the to-do list. They were also able to take an afternoon trip sailing along the coast, which was such a beautiful and fun new experience to share, before heading back to Denver, Colorado, where they moved just a couple of months before their wedding. To close this one off, Katie and Johnny had the actual cutest response to how they are special as a couple –  that they both found their “adventure-buddy” for life in each other. <YASSSSS!!> They both love traveling around the world (we are lucky to follow along, vicariously of course, on their travelling journeys through social media), being active and trying new things (from skydiving to mountain biking), and still have yet to come back from a trip sick of each other.  Now, as Denver residents, they are able to continue to be each other’s adventure partner by hiking, biking, skiing/snowboarding, and anything else that allows them to be outdoors. Johnny is a software developer, and Katie is currently studying UX Design. And, go figure, they are staying super busy – Johnny just ran his second marathon in October of 2017 in Washington, DC with his brother (his first being in lovely Portland, Maine a few years back).  And they still enjoy traveling around the world with each other whenever they get the chance.  From the bottom of our hearts we wish countless adventures to come for these two wonderful humans.

Sheela and Joe’s Barn on Walnut Hill Wedding | North Yarmouth, Maine

Oh Sheela and Joe.  Where do I begin with one of the sweetest, most genuine couples out there?  Thinking about their wedding at The Barn at Walnut Hill just makes me get all warm and fuzzy – they were just SO incredibly pleasant.  They are one of those couples that you’re just drawn to due to their caring demeanor’s, great senses of humor and infectious smiles.  You can tell just by looking at them that they both realize they hit the jackpot when they met each other.View More: http://emilydelamater.pass.us/0701sheelajoeIn fact, Sheela remarks upon meeting Joe: “The first thing I noticed about Joe was his smile. I have a thing for great smiles and his was just so warm and friendly, making me instantly feel comfortable with him.. I also kind of loved his casual sense of sarcasm, which is kind of an odd thing to love, but it also really helped put me at ease and laugh. I’ve said this before and it’s weird to say, but it always felt like I was supposed to be meeting him in that moment. It felt so immediately comfortable, it was almost like we already knew each other. I’ve never felt that way meeting anyone else, ever, in my life, and I know I never will. I felt this weird sense of confidence that we’d keep getting to know each other and something really good would come of it.”View More: http://emilydelamater.pass.us/0701sheelajoeAnd what was Joe’s first impression of Sheela? He says “the first time I met Sheela I felt like I was the funniest person in the world. For the record, I am the furthest thing from that, but the first thing I noticed and was attracted to about Sheela was her great laugh. It was so genuine and when you combined that with her amazing, beautiful smile, it made me feel so comfortable and at ease, which is completely uncommon for any first meeting, and especially for me. For whatever reason (I think it was fate), it felt like we had known each other for years. That is the type of chemistry that I know I will never feel again, and I’m very happy about that. I remember telling my best friend the next day about our encounter, feeling almost certain that something special would come from this and that I wouldn’t have to worry about dating anyone but Sheela ever again.”First Look-0012As if they couldn’t get any cuter; Joe shared with us the great care and tremendous planning that went into proposing to Sheela, which included making her a special dinner served on their NYC balcony of scallops with brown butter and rosemary (what?!), a nice bottle of rosé, and a custom pair of earrings made just for Sheela (SWOON!). After giving her the custom earrings Joe explains that “What she didn’t know was that I still had a little bag in my pocket that contained the ring. In order to not seem obvious, I told her I had to use the bathroom, which would allow me the opportunity to take the ring out of the bag. Once I got back outside to the balcony and sat down, I started telling her the story of how the earrings were made. I told her that the earrings were actually made using her mom’s engagement ring band, and then proceeded (trembling in fear that I would drop the ring off the balcony) to pull out the remainder of the ring (the diamond) on a newly mounted setting and asked her to marry me. She was of course in shock, but ultimately said ‘yes’ (phew!).”ceremony-0010.jpgAnd so the journey of planning their wedding began. They ultimately decided to get married at the Barn at Walnut Hill, which we all know is absolutely stunning year round but has an extra something special at the onset of summer. Thru the lens of brilliant photographer Emily Delamater, the soon-to-be bride and groom shared an intimate first look prior to the ceremony.Sheela and Joe first look prelookView More: http://emilydelamater.pass.us/0701sheelajoeCan we also take a look at the back of Sheela’s dress please? They have been married for 59 years and it’s so apparent that they are as much in love now than they were the day they got married. Who better to bless us with a happy and healthy future together, then? It will always be something we look back at fondly and we know they feel the same.”View More: http://emilydelamater.pass.us/0701sheelajoeView More: http://emilydelamater.pass.us/0701sheelajoeView More: http://emilydelamater.pass.us/0701sheelajoeView More: http://emilydelamater.pass.us/0701sheelajoeThe ceremony was beautifully crafted, with many of Joe and Sheela’s family and friends taking special roles, from reading excerpts from beloved stories (The Velveteen Rabbit is a personal favorite of mine too!), to incorporating Hindu tradition of exchanging blessed fresh floral Jasmine garlands and the pouring of turmeric stained rice from two vessels to one, symbolizing their union. Jolie and Casey’s Enchanting Western Maine Wedding | Granite Ridge Estate and Barn

Revisiting this sweet sweet day of Jolie and Casey not only warms my heart, but brings back such fond memories from a beautiful day on the top of a mountain in western Maine. Granite Ridge Estate and Barn will forever be one of my favorite venues solely for its picture perfect location – just look at the breathtaking view! Jolie and Casey may have earned some initial brownie points for selecting this fabulous venue, but it didn’t take long for us to fall in love with their infectious smiles and darling personalities as well.

Granite Ridge Wedding Bride and Groom Portrait Photography

Jolie and Casey met in November 2013 on Match.com, a heartwarming tale that never fails to make me smile. Jolie had been a Match.com user on and off for a few years, and through a coincidental encounter, saw Casey’s profile just before planning to leave the site for good.

“I was just about to deactivate my account when I saw Casey’s profile and figured I’d give it one last shot,” Jolie explained. “Casey had been active on the site for just 4 hours before I had reached out to him. I don’t usually take the initiative, but had a good, strong gut feeling when I read his profile. I knew he was going to be different.”

Granite Ridge Wedding - Bride and Groom Portraits

Jolie’s insightful feelings about Casey certainly turned out to be true. After initial email exchanges spent bonding over common interests (as well as a growing amount of undeniable excitement) these two had their first date set before they knew it.

“Jolie and I originally had our first date set up for the Boston Ski Expo (on a Sunday) but I got impatient and asked her to dinner and movie (on Friday),” explained Casey. “I was a little nervous because I hadn’t been on a “blind” date before. As I walked into the theater, I recognized her immediately, she was more beautiful in person than expected. We sat down to dinner and I was amazed that our conversation never paused for one minute; we had so much in common.”

“After dinner, we saw the movie Gravity,” Casey continued. “Halfway though the movie, I worked up the nerve and held her hand as we moved in closer; both held in suspense by the movie. When the movie finished, we decided we didn’t want the night to end. We headed over to a nearby bar, where we sat and talked until closing time. The whole night was magical and I was in disbelief that a blind date could go so well.”

Granite Ridge Wedding Bridal Bouquet

The initial spark felt between these two was truly undeniable, the type of love that you know right away is there to stay. Both recall a sense of comfort and relief being together, an instant connection that felt right from the very beginning.

“When Casey first walked through the doors for the first time at the movie theater, I remember being filled with excitement and feeling butterflies in my stomach,” said Jolie. “He is the most handsome guy I’ve met, a smile that just melts you and a true southern gentleman at heart. We had so much to talk about that night and shared many of the same interests. From the moment I met him, I knew he was different and this would be the beginning of an exciting journey.”

Granite Ridge Wedding Bride and Groom Rings

It didn’t take long for Jolie and Casey to know they were destined to spend the rest of their lives together. These two are always on the move; their love for the outdoors brought them closer with each new adventure whether it was through camping, snowboarding, or wake-surfing. Their adventurous spirits and love for one another grew founder with each day, making a proposal nothing short of amazing.

“We have a tradition of going to the Boston Ski & Sports Expo every year since we’ve met,” explained Jolie. “In November 2015, the expo fell upon the anniversary of our first date. I had some suspicion when Casey was so worried about what he was wearing or the fact he was bringing a bottle of wine with him. After the expo, we went for a walk around Boston Harbor when Casey dropped to one knee and proposed.”

Most special of all, Casey proposed to Jolie with a family heirloom engagement ring given to him by his mother. These sweet moments never fail to tug at the heartstrings!

Granite Ridge Wedding Invitation Suite

It was not long after the proposal that Jolie and Casey reached out to us directly, and oh how lucky we were! Because they were planning to hold a Labor Day Weekend wedding, we had quite a long planning window to utilize – perfect for the many details we included into this fabulous day. Inspired by their love for nature, Casey’s southern charm, and Jolie’s upbringing in New England, we worked as a team to create a day that reflected all of these special aspects of their lives. Captured by the lovely and talented Hailey & Joel Photography, we are thrilled to be able to share the many details and immense beauty from this day with all of you.

This first look would not be complete without the help of an extraordinary wedding party! The support from this group was everything – they were fun, fabulous, and stood by Jolie and Casey’s side through all of the day’s events. And the excitement on Jolie’s face here.. amazing!

Aside from that bright smile, Jolie looked flawless in her Hayley Paige dress and Isolá ‘Felicity shoes, while Casey showed off his impeccable style in a tan J. Crew suit.

Jolie and Casey spent time before the ceremony taking photos with the wedding party, their closest friends, and of course, their adoring and loving family. We are always blessed to work with such amazing families, but Jolie and Casey’s parents were two of the absolute sweetest. With photos complete, these two headed to the woodland sanctuary to officially tie the knot!

This ceremony was certainly one for the books. With the bright sun shining overhead and a warm breeze rustling the perfectly green leaves, Jolie and Casey exchanged vows and wedding rings in the presence of their closest friends and family. Beautiful acoustic music played softly in the background and special readings were presented by family members. The love these two share is profound, yet simple – there was such a natural ease between them that spoke to exactly who they are as a couple. And let me tell you friends, there definitely was not a dry eye in the crowd!

And let’s just take a minute to be in awe of this cake display… Such beauty! This antique vanity was sourced specifically for Jolie and Casey’s wedding, and wasn’t it just the perfect fit!

AFA Takes On E-Commerce: Helpful Tips For Using Our NEW Online Store!

That’s right friends, you read that title correctly! It’s official! With our new showroom ready to bring your design dreams to life, we are thrilled to now have our online store ready to assist with the process.

A Family Affair of Maine Showroom

If you’ve peeked around our website lately, you have probably already noticed some of the changes with the launch of our online rental store, but of course, we wanted to take the time to fully explain the process in this format as well. Below, we have outlined the entire rental process to further bring you ease and joy when selecting your favorite pieces to jazz up and customize your special event. Get your mouse ready – you may want to bookmark this page!

Screen Shot 2017-04-15 at 7.08.48 PM.png

Our online store can be found directly within our website and is accessible on laptops, tablets, and mobile phones. The store currently features our entire pre-existing in-house inventory – an eclectic mix of unique and vintage prop rentals that we have collected over time. From small assortments of glassware and tablescape décor to vintage furniture and architectural props, our one of a kind pieces are always sourced with love and are carefully selected with you and your guest’s comfort in mind.

As many of you know, our in-house inventory is constantly growing, as we continue to seek the most beloved and unique pieces from around New England. Just ask my staff – they may tell you I’m just a littttle crazy for the amount of antique hunting I do! With this in mind however, it is important to remember that our store will be constantly growing as well. While exploring the store, keep in mind that our newest items will always be listed first – so essentially, you’ll be surprised with new items every time you come back!

A Family Affair of Maine Showroom

Because our inventory is quite extensive, we have created helpful categories to assist you with finding exactly what you’re looking for within the store. On the left-hand side of the webpage, you will find our in-house inventory divided in eight categories: signage, comfort + play, linens, serviceware, custom ceremony arches, rugs, decorative, and (my favorite!) furniture. Below this list is a ninth category as well, entitled items FOR SALE. This category will give you the perfect glimpse of the assortment of items we are selling – make sure to take advantage of this before others do!

Further assisting you with finding the perfect item for your special event, our search engine provides the opportunity to use keywords to search for a specific piece. For example, simply searching the word ‘white’ yields a large assortment of items, ranging from beautiful white milk glass to these custom leather couches. Images will appear below the search engine for items that fit within your specific search.

A Family Affair of Maine Showroom

Your cart will once again provide you with further details such as dimensions and price of each piece, as well as the subtotal listed below. After ensuring your order is correct, please take the time to provide us with your event details found on the left hand side of the page. An example is shown below! As an additional note, is it extremely important for all Clients to understand that your custom order will serve as the primary wish list for pieces you wish to rent. Please know that your initial order will not be guaranteed until you receive a confirmation email directly from our staff.

AFA Online E-Commerce Store

Though the system will prompt you to provide a shipping address, please enter your billing address if you wish to pick up rental items, or the delivery address if you prefer delivery. You will then be prompted to confirm your delivery option (i.e. delivery + removal or a store pickup from our showroom) – further information regarding these two options can be found below.

STEP 3: AKA the best part – submitting your order! Alli and Morgan’s Classic Flanagan Farm Wedding | Buxton, Maine

Am I the only one wondering how March is already here? These first few months of 2017 have flown by, but we’re certainly not complaining! Spring is just around the corner and I am loving every minute of chasing away the late winter blues! The first warm days of the year are ones I cherish like no other, giving the perfect glimpse of the beautiful summer weddings that lay ahead. The Barn at Flanagan Farm is one of our favorite places in the world to host a wedding, and this one not only kicked off the 2016 season in utter style last year, but seriously gave us all the feels.

flanagan-farm-wedding-bride-and-groom-portrait-copy

These two lovelies met at the tender age of 17, when they were just learning to navigate life at boarding school. As fate would have it, Alli and Morgan were put in the same group to work on a project during their junior year history class, and met once again when they were seated next to one again at a formal school dinner soon after. Though both were shy and quiet at first, a sweet high school love quickly blossomed that has stood the test of time.

“He was very sweet and I thought it was cool that he did freestyle skiing,” said Alli, speaking of her first impression of Morgan. “He had beautiful eyes and a great body.”

Unsurprisingly, Morgan shared these amicable feelings toward All as well. “She was very cute and shy; modest but confident,” he said.

As I’m guessing most of us can certainly remember, dating in high school can be a little tricky. Let alone dating at boarding school! These challenges hardly dampened the love between these two sweets however, as they found ways to spend time together and strengthen their growing relationship.

“At boarding school, you didn’t really have the opportunity to go on dates,” explained Alli. “The first time we really hung out was at one of the dances when we had Motor Booty Affair came to our school. Our friends were all taking pictures of us and Morgan got me to dance even though I NEVER dance. We also had our first kiss that night.”

Swooning over here! High school love never fails to tug at the heart strings.

Dancing to Motor Booty Affair and enjoying life at boarding school was hardly the last of their adventures together. For the next seven years (yes, seven!), Alli and Morgan spent time nurturing their relationship and growing closer with each passing day.

As both of their families would surely attest, a proposal after seven years of dating hardly came as a surprise. What was surprising however, and so very special, was how Morgan proposed. Someone certainly gets creativity points for this one!

flanagan-farm-wedding-rings

“I had told Morgan many times that when he proposed I did not want anything big or in front of anyone,” explained Alli. “He had promised me that when we had found a place to live once back in Maine that we would get engaged at some point and I did not remember this promise at all. The night we moved into our new apartment, I was very sick and not feeling well. Morgan told me to get in bed and relax while he went and picked up Chinese food (my favorite). He told me I better not be asleep when he got home.”

“He came back and put all the food on the bed but the rice I had ordered was right in front of me,” she continued. “I opened up my rice and saw flower petals on it. I thought, ‘That’s weird why would they do that?’ and he said ‘Oh it must be a fancy place.” I moved the petals and underneath was a note that said, “Will you marry me?” I looked up and he was kneeling on the floor holding my grandmother’s ring. I was so shocked I think right away said “are you serious, are you kidding me?” Of course I eventually said yes! He couldn’t have proposed a better way.”

Seriously?! What girl wouldn’t want to get engaged over her favorite meal?!

Not long after the proposal, Alli’s family reached out to us with the hopes of securing an inspiring team of vendors to help create their dream wedding, one complete with rustic, chic, and classic details in a beautiful refurbished barn. Working with these two was a blast – their easygoing personalities and fun spirits made for the perfect addition to our already fabulous team. And the beauty that was created for this day?! Just wait! Thanks to the über talented Kate Crabtree Photography, we are so blessed to be able to share this beauty with all of you.

Alli’s aunt Ashley owns a boutique custom stationery business and shop in Chicago, and who better to design a unique and memorable brand for the two? Ashley was busy creating custom drink cups, napkins for both the rehearsal dinner and wedding, as well as timeless and beautiful day of place cards, programs and menus that added so much love and beauty to the many details of the day.

Alli’s natural elegance radiated through these sweet Nina shoes and gorgeous Rita Vinieris by Rivini dress. And what a stunning group of bridesmaids by her side!

Morgan certainly looked handsome as well, showing off his great sense of style with a custom Peter Renney’s Fashions suit and Cole Haan shoes. With morning preparations complete, these two snuck off to take photos with their closest friends and family members. A first look was not in the plans for the day, so just imagine the anticipation!

We are so blessed to know and love this entire family. Alli and Morgan truly had the most supportive group of people surrounding them throughout the entire weekend’s events. And they clearly take pretty amazing photos too!

I truly cannot think of a time when I’ve seen this intimate woodland sanctuary look more dreamy than this. So many are drawn to Flanagan Farm for this right here, this beautiful space tucked just in the woods to serve as the perfect backdrop for a loving ceremony. And I know you’re eyeing those amazing florals. Seasons Downeast Design went all out for this wedding and it certainly shows! From the lush arbor greens to the overflowing ceremony florals, the amount of beauty here was simply breathtaking.

Between the readings and profound love shared between these two, this ceremony absolutely brought me to tears. Alli and Morgan have such a tender love for one another, one that shone brightly as they exchanged rings and read their vows. Most special of all was a surprise ceremony from two of Alli’s aunts. Though they had planned to share a reading, they surprised everyone when they released monarch butterflies in honor or Alli’s late mother. It was so touching and memorable; not a dry eye in sight!

So in love with this! This sweet photo is by far one of my favorite images from the day. The first moments after a ceremony are so special, filled with such earnest joy and genuine love. These two were loving every minute of it!

Alli’s Nana Diane was truly a joy to work with during the planning process. This woman has style and grace like no other Nana on earth (although I’d have to admit that if mine were still living she might have some competition-ha!).

Morgan’s family also planned the rehearsal dinner at the venue the night prior, which was a beautiful start to the weekend.

I will forever be in awe of the beauty that was created in this space, because I mean.. just look at it! La Tavola tablecloths served as the perfect foundation for these classic tablescapes, complete with an assortment of mercury glass votives and the perfect pop of color in the navy napkin.

A sweet first dance and a darling speech from Alli’s Nana kicked off the night and let me tell you friends, it was a standing ovation for all three of these wonderful people! After being introduced from the second floor balcony, Alli and Morgan danced and laughed their hearts out to a unique song written and performed by Morgan’s younger brother Will. After a loving speech from Nana, and from Alli’s beautiful and most special sister and Maid of Honor Lauren (which you get a snippet of at the incredible footage by Ryan Denning Creative at the bottom of the post), guests were ready to eat a delicious dinner and have some fun!

Guests danced the night away to funky tunes from the Boston-based and very talented  Unity Band. There was certainly no shortage of fun and stylish dance moves here! At one point in the night, Alli and Morgan snuck away to spend a few moments with their handsome pups as well. These sweet dogs were around all weekend and you better believe I loved every minute of it! When the night came to an end, Alli and Morgan spent time with their closest friends and family members around a warm bonfire under a beautiful starry sky.

Kyla and Struan’s Press Hotel Wedding | Portland, Maine

Happy February my sweet friends! We are officially smack dab in the middle of the month of love (Happy belated Valentine’s day!), and I so hope you enjoyed our four part series of fabulous camp weddings. Now, we’re taking a step out of the woods to the big city and personally, I can’t think of a better way to do this than revisiting the picture perfect wedding of Kyla and Struan.

press-hotel-wedding-potrait-photography

These two sweet souls met when they were just young babes, spending much of their childhood years together attending the same elementary and middle school in a small Canadian town. Though they don’t consider it their first date (I beg to differ!), Struan actually asked Kyla to his eighth grade prom. These two were meant to be before they even knew it themselves! After moving on to different high schools and losing touch, fate brought them together once again after ten long years apart.

“For our first date, we met for post work drinks,” Struan recalled. “She made fun of my lawyerly side part. A few drinks and many laughs later, we shut the place down. Kyla was strikingly beautiful, and she laughed at my jokes!”

Kyla loved their first date as well, knowing it was fate that the two of them had the opportunity to meet once again. “Struan was tall and handsome, athletic and sarcastic,” she recalled.

press-hotel-wedding-kyla-and-struan-portraitsThe following months saw countless dates, laughs and adventures for these two, as they quickly realized they were destined to spend the rest of their lives together. A sweet, intimate proposal soon followed, during a magical Christmas Eve spent at home.

“Struan proposed while we were opening presents at our place and drinking champagne. It was just before we went our separate ways to honor Christmas Eve traditions with our own families.”

press-hotel-wedding-wedding-rings

As they began the planning process from their coastal Canadian town of Moncton, New Brunswick, Kyla and Struan knew they would need the assistance and knowledge of a local planning and design team here in Maine. Believe it or not, these two chose Portland as the location for their destination wedding after only one visit! Our team was thrilled to work with Kyla and Struan to pull together their vision for the day and create a plan to oversee the logistics of the day utilizing two separate venues.

“It was a lot of online reviews and trusting our “gut” instincts when it came to booking venues and vendors,” the two explained. “We took a gamble and can honestly say that our wedding day was above and beyond anything we could have dreamed of.”

From gorgeous pre-wedding photography on the beach, to a rooftop ceremony at the Press Hotel, to ending the night with drinks and bowling, Kyla and Struan’s day was an absolute stunner. Filled with endless laughs, delicious food, and most importantly, an outpouring of love and support, this day is one I will never forget. Thanks to the always talented Mat & Ash Photography, we are so happy to share the beauty and fun in this amazing summer day in Maine with all of you.

And do you see those beautiful Tahari shoes?! These studded sandals were perfect for traveling around Portland during their adventurous and fun filled day.

Ah, the love! It was truly touching to see such bliss on Kyla and Struan’s faces during their first look. Though the hustle and bustle of Portland surrounded them, these two enjoyed their precious moments together as if they were the only two in the world. With the wedding jitters out of their systems and their wedding party in tow, Kyla and Struan set off to various Portland locations to capture some of the beauty that surrounded them.

I think I’m seeing a pattern here with these fierce bridesmaids. I mean, those jumpsuits?! Come on! And I know you can’t miss those fabulously vibrant bouquets. These beauties were sourced from Broadturn Farm and gave the perfect pop of color against the girls’ beautiful white ensembles.

It looks like Kyla and Struan’s wedding wasn’t the only one happening in Portland this day! Do I suspect some intentional photobombing happening here?!

The beauty and diversity of Portland is any photographers dream, and as you can surely tell, Kyla and Struan loved every minute of this pre-ceremony photography. We absolutely adore Portland weddings for just this reason. I mean, who wouldn’t want to spend the day exploring this incredibly breathtaking city?

With photos complete, these two lovelies headed back to the Press Hotel to officially tie the knot and start the celebrations.

The only thing more beautiful than the view from this intimate rooftop ceremony was the incredible love shared between these two. Staying true to their personalities, Kyla and Struan’s ceremony was remarkably sweet, compassionate, and filled with laughs. Family members had the honor to perform readings, and Kyla and Struan beamed when reading their personal, handwritten vows. These two shared beautiful moments with their closest friends and family members that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.

After cocktail hour was complete, this party headed down the street to Grace Restaurant for an intimate dinner. Multiple venues throughout the day.. yet another reason we love Portland! And why not make a few stops along the way for more photos?!
